Current & Upcoming Events

Dear all:
We hope that the school year is off to a great start. As kids start to settle into their new classes, we thought it might be a good time to share this training by the Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund (DREDF) that provides an overview of the special education process, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act laws.

The training will take place on September 9, 2024, from 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
You must register in advance for this training: https://dredf.org/event/special-education-basics-and-beyond/

In addition, we wanted to share some general information from DREDF about its Parent Training and Information Center (PTI). The PIT is staffed by Education Advocates who are parents of children with disabilities or who have a disability.
DREDF's Education Advocates help parents, caregivers, and youth with disabilities (or suspected disabilities) understand and use important disability and civil rights laws, participate effectively in the special education process, advocate for needed support and services, and solve school problems. The PTI also supports professionals who serve children. The PTI does not provide legal advice. Services are free and language access and disability accommodations are available.
Best,
Jen
